Emerging from the holiday fog

We had a lovely holiday season and a very happy new year! I hope you did as well! We were able to fill it with lots of quality time with loved ones and zip lining! We continue to focus on experiences and time over material things, so Jackie’s big gift this year was a tree house and zip line built lovingly by James over the week after Christmas and before New Year’s! We had so many folks help build over the week, but James was the one constant. Not only is the tree house beautiful but it’s the perfect launching point for the zip line- which was also ridden by a large group over the week (including yours truly)!

On Sunday evening I turned my alarm back on. We prepared Jackie to head back to school on Monday. Monday night brought disagreements over homework. It feels like we are slowly emerging from the fog of the holidays- no alarms, no deadlines, no diets, and lots of fun! I wonder though if we didn’t have the normality of work, school, homework, activities, would the holiday breaks be as enjoyable? As a kid I loved Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, but I wouldn’t ask for it all the time because I felt like it wouldn’t be my favorite anymore if I ate it all the time. Are holiday breaks the same thing or am I just telling myself that?

I hope you are also emerging from the fog this week. Remember not to be too hard on yourself we are all in transition this week, it’s ok to be late, sleep through your alarm, or forget what day your daughter has guitar.
